A Toyota mini motorhome is still a popular choice as an economical, multi-use recreational vehicle. Although the truck chassis is no longer produced for the United States market older models are still highly sought after.
When RV manufacturers began using the Toyota chassis as a base to build Toyota mini motorhomes their target market was largely blue collar working men around the age of 35 for whom this would be there first RV.
While most of these prospective buyers were generally shopping for travel trailers or truck campers the idea was to offer an affordable motorhome that could be purchased on a working mans budget.
Although at the time there was no typical kind of RV owner, there was a market for a multi-use, economical, short-haul vehicle. Market research during that time indicated that as many as one third of buyers who purchased a Toyota mini motorhome used it as their only vehicle.
As demand for these tiny RVs grew manufactures responded to owner surveys in order to improve new models.
Buyers asked for built-in stoves, stainless steel sinks with a drain, a water system with outside drinking fountain, better ice box, more shelves, better seating, more room for children to sleep, sliding glass windows, and a stronger quieter body.
Manufacturers responded by exceeding customer expectations adding all requested items and additional improvements. Mechanical improvements included the new 20-R engine which gave more power out on the highway.
These motor homes were designed with economy in mind, but were built with careful attention to detail, quality and craftsmanship. They became a very popular choice in motorhome sales.
Many different models were created. Some models produced many units like the Toyota Dolphin motorhome while others had a very limited production such as the Sunrader and the Mirage pictured above.
There were a few models that were built on a 4 X 4 chassis. These are very collectible and are favorites for restoration projects.
While you can still find Toyota motorhomes for sale some models are becoming quite rare. Ebay and Craig's list are popular places to find them online, but bidding can get very competitive on collectible used Toyota motorhomes.
